Herringbone Block Paving Driveway & Complete Front Garden Transformation in Ashtead, Surrey

This project in Ashtead involved much more than installing a new driveway. Our client wanted to completely refresh the front of their property, creating a smarter entrance while also carrying out improvements to the surrounding garden features. The result is a beautifully laid herringbone block paving driveway that complements the character of the home and provides a durable, practical surface for everyday use.

A Timeless Herringbone Design

For this 73m² driveway we installed a traditional herringbone block paving pattern, chosen for both its classic appearance and exceptional strength. The interlocking pattern distributes vehicle loads evenly, making it one of the most durable paving layouts for residential driveways while adding visual interest and enhancing the property’s kerb appeal.

Built on Proper Foundations

As with every driveway we install, the quality of the finished surface starts with the groundwork. We excavated the existing driveway to the correct depth before installing a weed control membrane and a fully compacted Type 1 sub-base. The perimeter edging was then installed to securely retain the paving before laying and screeding sharp sand to create a perfectly level bed for the blocks.

Each paving block was laid with precision before the surface was compacted and kiln-dried jointing sand was brushed into every joint, creating a stable, long-lasting finish designed to withstand years of daily use.

Additional External Improvements

Alongside the new driveway, we carried out several additional improvements around the property to complete the transformation. Three new trellis panels were installed to provide additional privacy and enhance the garden boundaries, while the existing patio was professionally jet washed and repointed using Easy Joint compound to restore its appearance.

We also stained the existing fencing and timber sleepers, giving them a fresh new look while helping to protect the timber from the elements.
